A Snowy Friday Picnic

The Friday before our Spring Break Vacation, Robert and I decided to bundle up and take Maddie out for a picnic...we even drove up the mountain where there was still snow!! Here's a few pics from that fun day together...

Maddie likes potato chips...after her visit to the vet on Friday, we're gonna have to say no potato chips pup pup.
Maddie and I had visited this field before with her friend Lexi, but we've been longing for the day we were able to bring Robert.

Maddie loves picnics!
This is the definition of STUBBORN!

Here we go, now we're being a good girl...

While sitting on the side of Kennesaw Mountain together, we took a few pics of Little Kennesaw Mountain that sits next to it:

That's all! We love our Fridays we get to spend together. They're like a precious gift from the Lord each week.

This Weekend

Lot's going on this weekend! There's something for everyone!!!

First, please pray for us!!! We leave this afternoon for our annual Middle School Retreat. I've said it before, but this is one the most incredible things I have ever seen. Our high school leadership team has spent months preparing and planning for this retreat...and throughout the weekend...they do all the speaking, all the prayer ministry, all the band, all the small group leading, etc, etc... Incredible. So...please pray. It starts this afternoon and we'll return Sunday at 12:30pm. For last years recap video, click here.

For those around here...or even if you're not around here and want to come up or over...you should! John Mark McMillan and our own Daniel Bashta are going to be at our church (RiverStone) Saturday night @ 7pm...so come....

For my South Georgia friends....Rita Springer is on St. Simons Island. I don't even need to get into how much this woman has influenced my life. So...if you're anywhere near the coast, you need to go. Here are the details: Christian Renewal Church @ 6530 Frederica Road, St. Simons Island, GA starting at 10am on Sunday, March 21st. For more info, call the church... 912.638.4918.

Also, my youth friends at RHUMC are raising money on Saturday for their upcoming mission trip...with a car wash and yard sale. So, for those Savannah and Richmond Hill folks...or anyone driving on I-95 stop by 9050 Ford Ave, Richmond Hill, between 7am and 3pm and support my friends please.

Okay, that's all I got. Have a great weekend friends. I'll see you on Sunday!

I forgot one!

Please do forgive me! I forgot one very important picture from home that I received yesterday...

Of my nephew...Forest...

And if you want to see why else I love this city, click on this amazing blog. This is my sister's incredible wedding photographer and I've been following her blog ever since my sister said "I do!" This blog captures one of my favorite places on earth. The law firm Robert worked for in Savannah sat on the edge of this park and it was a good day when I could get downtown and we could have a picnic together on his lunch break.

Okay, I'll let you go to sleep now. Good night friends!

The day after St. Pats....

So I never thought I was really one for St. Patrick's Day, but as the day went on, I realized I really missed it. We did absolutely nothing here to recognize the day and life went on as normal--all the kids had school, everyone had work, not like any of my good ole friends in the Sav. :)

After I wrote the post from my office yesterday, I came home and there was a St. Patrick's Day card in the mailbox from home. On the inside from my mom was written,
"Wish you were here to share...
Shamrock floats
Corned Beef and Cabbage
Ruben Sandwiches
Mint Girl Scout Cookies
and Going to the Parade
Can't send these things to you but we can send lots of love
and Irish blessing and that's no Blarney!"
Love and miss you!
Mom & Dad"

And I was undone by the end of it. Now I do miss me some Shamrock floats (lime sherbet and sprite, which I could totally make here) but it was the realization that I missed my family. I kept getting pictures from home on my cell phone and my heart longed to be with them. So in all reality, it wasn't St. Pat's Day I was missing...it was my family...and not just my family, but the traditions that my family has instilled in me over the past 30 years. They are precious to me and I am grateful I have these beautiful memories.

It dawned on me yesterday morning that we went home right before Valentines Day so my parents home was decorated from head to toe for that holiday...since we haven't been home since, we didn't get to see it decorated for St. Pat's Day...and since we don't have it scheduled to make it home till after Easter, we won't see it decorated for that holiday either. It's these simple things that you realize mean so much when you are no longer there to partake in them.

So with that, I just want to say I miss my family. Love them a lot. And can't wait till I can see them again. I don't doubt for a second I'm 100% where the Lord has me...but still doesn't make it easy. And here are the pictures from home...I mean really, how can you not just want to jump in the car and drive 4.5 hours south...

Happy St. Pats

You can take the girl out of Savannah...but you can't take the Savannah out of the girl....hence, I gave in and wore green today. Unlike my hubby. Here's his current twitter/facebook status,

"No... I didn't wear green today. I wore blue. And if you pinch me, i will punch you."

Nice. He's so compassionate. Just to prove to my mom that I wore green today, here I am in my office...

That's for you mom...can you see it? It's under my scarf. Okay...on that note, I think it's time for me to head out of my office for a little bit. Enjoy your St. Pat's day my friends!

So ready for spring...

But while it's still winter...I couldn't help but pause last week and take notice of our fence in our backyard and what it had decided to do during the winter. Something about this just makes me smile.

It's good to be still for a moment...even if it is to ponder at a fence. Have you stopped and smelled the roses, I mean stare at bare branches lately?

Did you miss us?

Did you even know we were gone? I realize that blog hiatuses are unfortunately becoming more and more common around here that you might not have noticed that we were gone. I did just recently notice that I blogged a total of 3 times in January. 3. Really? 3. There is an explanation and I'm hoping after this past week of being away that words might have finally come to me. Might. Meaning they may or may not make it here on the blog. Anywhoo...Hubs had Spring Break this past week, so I took the week off too! It's such a blessing to be able to do that! We spent the first couple of days here in Marietta falling in love with where the Lord has us....by doing this....
And then on Wednesday, we packed up the truck and drove a few hours north, to here.....
Where it rained the entire time and we had a marvelous time. Rain clattering on the rooftop of the cabin, precious time with Jesus, my beautiful hubby, no internet, no phone and Maddie came along too! More pictures to come soon I promise. For today, we're trying to get back into the swing of things--having lost an hour of sleep at that. Enjoy your Sunday my friends!

My first sewing project...

I've been working on a new sewing project on this snowy afternoon, but I wanted to share pictures with you of my first completed project. I did this one from a pattern...and in the process of trying to teach yourself how to sew...reading a pattern is like reading Greek...so anyway...it was a little rough. But, I think it turned out okay for being for my first shot at a sewing machine!

It's a bunting for my new niece. I started it in October...when Robert bought me my sewing machine for my birthday...and it finally got completed and given to her when she was a few days shy of turning a month old (in February)...details :)

Then we made the trip to the SAV to give it to her....

I cut the material for the "newborn" size...either I need to learn how to really read patterns or she's just really a Smith :)

And these are what I like to call the..."What are you doing to me Auntie?" pictures...Actually I'm pretty sure she's saying that in the pic above of the two of us when she's staring at me...

Oh well. Thank you Aniston for letting yourself be my sewing model. Don't worry, the project I worked on today wasn't for you...but I gotta go back and redo the length...there must be a lot of tall people in this world!

A Snowy Tuesday in the ATL

Just thought I'd share a picture with you that I took with my phone as I was leaving work today...

Beautiful isn't it?
