To Blog...or Not to Blog

That is the question of the hour--and one I'm going to ponder over the weekend--and I want your input!

As some of you might remember from a couple of years back I took on the challenge of November--Blogging everyday for a month (otherwise known as NaBloPoMo.)

I took last year off from it and am now pondering whether I should do it this year.

I have thought about the fact that here lately our blog has turned into a baby blog---and it makes me want to apologize--but then I think about the fact that none of our immediate family lives here---and it is our way to let them be a part of this incredible adventure...so baby blog it is.

So, all that to say...if I'm challenged to blog every day for a month--it might make me blog about something more than Little Hoot.

What do you think?

Who's with me?  Anyone want to join the challenge???

19 weeks...

Can you believe it...we're almost halfway there!

According to baby center during his/her 19th week:

Your baby's sensory development is exploding! Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that she may be able to hear your voice now, so don't be shy about reading aloud, talking to her, or singing a happy tune if the mood strikes you.

Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of a large heirloom tomato. Her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of her body now. Her kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on her skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid.

How exciting is all of that? So much to be praying into for this little one.  I find it great joy that the Lord has allowed me to carry this little one and entrusted Robert and I to raise it to grow to know Him in a deep, personal way.

19 week highlights:

  • We had a visit from McMom and Robert's grandparents--we took them up Kennesaw Mountain for the first of Little Hoot's trips up.  This trip was in the car.  Looking forward to the day we get to hike it with Little Hoot (with Robert carrying the baby of course!)
  • I've been teaching on Acts and the Holy Spirit for the month of October at youth and the Lord has just shown me so much through preparing for this teaching and stirred up such a desire for this little one to walk in the fullness that He has for him/her.  During week 19, I was preparing to teach on the baptism of the Holy Spirit and oh how I love reading the Word and laying hands on my womb as the Lord stirred my own heart for more.
  • I turned 31 during Little Hoot's 19th week.  He/she got to have Shogun's Japanese Steakhouse for lunch and P.F. Changs for dinner and a Coldstone Ice Cream cake for dessert....was so yummy...not looking forward to this month's weigh in...
  • Getting so close to our next appointment where we could find out the gender of little hoot--but I'm convinced more than ever about not finding out....I eagerly anticipate the big surprise in March!

Tuesday Giggles

It's pictures like these that I receive that

a)  make me love being an aunt
b)  really miss home
c)  can't believe my niece is crawling and
discovering new things every day
like her big brother's bed...

I could eat up my little niece...
and will do so very soon!

**I hope this made you laugh as much it did me when
I received it!

October Birthdays

We have lots of reasons to celebrate in October....here are just a few :)

River turned 2 at the beginning of October!
Can you believe it?
Look at that little man all grown up!
Ah, it feels like just yesterday he graced us with his presence!

We travelled to Perry for Dindi's (Robert's Grandfather)
80th Birthday Celebration!
It was a great night with LOTS of family and friends
and a perfect way to celebrate
an incredible man!

Mid October brings us a day to celebrate
our McDad (Robert's Father).
I love this picture as it's a perfect
example of how Robert feels about his dad--
he will forever look up to this man as
he is a man of great wisdom
(and humor if you're wondering where
Robert gets his sense of humor).

The second half of October brings the special day
that Marynan (Robert's sister) and I share a birthday.
Such a joy to share this day with this special lady.
She turned 22 this year!

Finally, our last birthday of October celebrates
a very special lady (and her birthday happens to be today)..
My Mommy!
It's days like today that make it hard to be 4.5 hours away,
but I'm grateful for her
and the blessing she is to me.
There's no one else I'd rather have my birthday get confused with!

A beautiful gift

My parents graciously bought our crib and dresser.  We did some shopping around and finally found a great deal on this hardwood crib and dresser.  We got such a great deal, we even have some money left over (for maybe a crib mattress or maybe these).

Thank you mom and dad for such a beautiful place for our little one.

At the store, making our final decision (and not our bedding--just the display model of our crib):

I was absolutely no help.  Grateful for our Katie and Jordan that helped with this project upon getting it home:

Taking over our living room:

Here comes the crib:

And the dresser:

Aren't they pretty?  We already have some little socks, onesies, bibs and blankets inside the dresser!  In January we'll move them from our room into what is currently Katie's room (whose growing up on us and getting married!) which will become Litlle Hoot's room.

Thanks again Mom & Dad!!!!

18 weeks...

Instead of taking our traditional 18 weeks picture...we decided to do it at 18 1/2 weeks--to document Little Hoot was a part of our lives for my 31st birthday!

In the hat/crown my mom sent me...

In the hat Robert got me for my birthday (along with the necklace!)

Week 18 highlights:
  • We Robert put the crib together during this week.  I fell asleep...but it turned out beautiful!  (pictures to come).
  • Still have not really felt the baby move.  Might have felt a little brush from the inside, but Robert swears it was just gas.  Isn't he sweet?  I've really been wanting to feel the baby move, but realized the other day we've been praying for a calm natured, sweet, sleeps through the night little one....maybe it's a good thing I haven't felt this one move (but Mama still wants to know everything's okay in there!)
  • Craving mexican food.  Is that weird?
  • Full blown into maternity clothes.  Gave up my jeans and the belly band when I noticed a bruise on my hip.  Nice, eh?
  • Only real pregnancy symptom I've had this past week is waking up 2 times a night to go to the bathroom--makes it slightly hard to get up in the am.

*Pictures taken October 20, 2010.  More birthday pictures to come!

Etsy is back up!

Slowly but surely I've got things back up in the shop!  So excited!  Looking forward to experimenting and getting some more new things in there!

For now... Go take a look to see these pretties!

And those are just a few, there are more in the SHOP!!!

I'm so excited to finally get these up!  What started as a project strongly encouraged by my husband that led to help fund my Scotland mission trip...then took a back burner while trying to learn how to live life and be pregnant is back in full force....now what should be my next goal...to raise enough money to send my husband to law school?  Yeah, that's it.  Is that too lofty of a goal? :)

"Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations, forever and ever.  Amen."  Ephesians 3:20

17 weeks...

As promised...here are pictures at 17 weeks!

McDad at 17 weeks:

The two of us at 17 weeks :)

Nothing too exciting to report this week.  The experts tell us that during week 17 little hoot grew to be the size of our hand stretched out.  My question is, is it my hand or Robert's?  There's just a slight difference between the two! :)

16 weeks...

So, we made it to 16 weeks before we failed to get a tummy picture.  Not because we forgot, there was just never the opportunity.

Sundays are the day that we take the pictures (even though Saturdays are the days that we turn the page on a new week).  Let's face it...I choose Sundays because it is on most occasions the only day of the week I put a slight bit more effort into what I look like. (and that's a confession).

So, this week...we were out of town at Fall Retreat and well, I could have gotten a picture of me that hadn't slept in a few days, hadn't taken a shower yet that day, and a frumpy sweatshirt....so instead of a tummy picture, you'll get this one...shot from our balcony of where we stayed all weekend:

Then well....we'll call these our tummy pictures for this week...can you see it hiding under that fabulous bright purple wind suit?

And well because one picture of our fabulous 80's youth night at Sparkles this week isn't enough...I'll let you have these too....

Disclaimers:
-My husband does not normally have a creepy mustache.  He shaved his beard for this special occasion.
-I was not able to skate, therefore where people are normally 2 feet taller than me, they are 4 feet taller than me in these pictures.
-We had to specially purchase our attire for the evening--thank you Value Village for a last minute great find (meaning I did not have this in my closet--but I will now for future occasions!)

On a more serious 16 week note--things are going good.  We had an appointment this week and things are looking great.  I escaped morning sickness with this pregnancy---but not the runny nose/head swimming/sore throat/ears stopped up/sneezing.  Now that has not been fun this week!  And as most of you know, we are NOT finding out the sex of Little Hoot.  I love surprises...so what better of a surprise!  The funny thing now is...if you follow the old wives tale of determining the sex of the baby by the heartbeat, Little Hoot has been a girl up until this week....this week it's as the old wives tale would tell us, a boy.  Ha!  Little Hoot already has a sense of humor (just like his/her daddy -now that's scary isn't it!)  **Doc says it's perfectly normal for the heartbeat to slow down around this stage in our pregnancy.

That's all for this week.  17 weeks is what we'll be tomorrow and we'll attempt another picture!

We're in Perry this weekend celebrating Robert's grandfather's 80th birthday, and a wedding shower for two of Robert's dear friends.  Are you celebrating anything special this weekend?  Have a great weekend my friends!

Ghana on my mind....

...and my heart this week!

  • We have a dear team of women from RiverStone in Ghana this week.  Click here to follow all of their crazy God ordained adventures!
  • A family that is near and dear to my heart finally received their visa to bring their precious new daughter home!  They are in Ghana this week.  Click here to not only read about their ongoings in Ghana this week, but their entire story of their road to adoption!
  • And well if that wasn't enough, if you know anything about me, the one and only show I'll bend over backwards to try to get home and watch is the Amazing Race.  And yes, they were in Ghana this week.

So, what's the Lord been laying on your heart lately?

October.

Well hello there October 1st. I am so happy to see you.  We've got the AC turned off, the windows open, the pumpkin spice coffee brewing in the pot (decaf of course).  We've already made pumpkin bars and have the house decorated for fall because we were impatient waiting for you October, but we're considering making pumpkin chocolate chip cookies thanks to our friends mentioning.

October officially means it's birthday month (because that's how the Smith's roll) and traditions are made and continued!  Since I had to surrender going to cut down my own Christmas tree with moving to the big city...we started a new tradition last year with going to pick out pumpkins.  Robert says we only did it last year, so it's not yet a tradition....yet he's promised to take me again this year for my birthday...that makes it a tradition in my book.

What about you?  What are your fall traditions?  Do you get excited about October as much as I do?

Have a great weekend my friends!  We're heading north to the mountains with our high schoolers this afternoon.  Which means there will be spotting of fall foliage.  And this is where I do my happy dance!
